Sales needed for a 45-day turn
Sell 40 vehicles in 30 days at your current stock level. That’s 10 more than you sold in the reporting period.
How to calculate used car inventory turnover
Choose a reporting period and count the vehicles sold during those days. Use the average daily stock for the same vehicle group. If you only have opening and closing stock counts, add them together and divide by two for an estimate.
How are turns and days per turn calculated?
Divide vehicles sold by average vehicles in stock to get turns for the period. Multiply by 365 and divide by the number of reporting days to annualize the rate. Days per turn equals average stock multiplied by reporting days, divided by vehicles sold.
What does a 45-day target mean for my lot?
A dealer who sells 30 cars in 30 days with an average stock of 60 has a 60-day turn. At the same stock level, selling 40 cars in 30 days would achieve a 45-day turn. The target is a planning assumption you can adjust.
Is this the same as accounting inventory turnover?
This calculator measures turnover in vehicle units. The accounting ratio uses cost of goods sold divided by average inventory value. Vehicle mix and purchase prices can cause the two measures to differ.
